USE CATWALK INSPIRATION & MAKE IT YOUR OWN!!!

Use catwalk inspiration and make it your own!

Makeup from the catwalk is notoriously hard to translate to wearable ‘real life’ faces. Sometimes truly outrageous, others can instil makeup perfection.

Rather than been a slave to trends, cherry pick the most flattering ideas and make them part of your bridal look!

Pink lips are everywhere this season, and while Fashion week favoured bright neon shades, don’t be afraid to   make a skin flattering shade your facial focal point. Cool or warm, matte or glossy, pink really is the most versatile makeup shade and will always make up the quintessential ‘English Rose’ look.

Surprisingly NYFW let easy to achieve makeup looks dominate the catwalk. A personal favourite of mine and the epitome of natural bridal beauty came from ‘90’s inspired warm browns’ think skin enhancing nude tones such as beige, peach and chocolate hues. For any bride wanting to look made-up but not over made-up this look will be forever timeless, it suits everyone and can easily be made more dramatic for the evening.

Finally lashes that beg the question ‘could they be real?’ lash enhancement can look stunning in photographs. Though remembering the ‘less is more approach’, it might be wise to opt for a few individual placed lashes than pay homage to the 60’s with strip effect!

Top Tips

Bridal makeup relies heavily on skin prep to guarantee its longevity. I always tell my brides to leave the rich heavy face creams for bedtime and to favour a light non greasy formula under their makeup …. My secret has always been ‘Oil Of Olay Classic’; it provides a fantastic supple base.

To stop eye shadow creasing, cleanse the eye area and prep with an eye primer such as Benefit’s Lemon Aid or Makeup Academy Eye Primer.

Base

My Bobbi Brown BBU palette is my go to foundation for all the bridal party creating a soft dewy complexion. To get the classic ‘defined natural’ look I often use a natural blush such as benefit’s Dandelion over the eye area as well as the cheeks. This product lightens and brightens and I take it right up to the brow bone.

 Eyes

Gel liners are a bride’s best friend and through tears and tissues they really do not budge! I favour a sharp angular brush to apply Avon Super Gel Eyeliner. To soften, smudge a dark chocolate brown shadow such as Tom ford Eye Color Quad in ‘Cognac sable’ or Makeup Geek’s ‘Coco Bear’ into the gel liner and blend into the eye crease area. Apply waterproof mascara such as ‘Lancome Hypnose’ to already curled lashes.

 Lips

Give lips a natural pink hue with Bobbi Brown ‘Blondie Pink’ lip colour or Makeup Academy ‘shade 4’. I always recommend lip gloss for photos, as it makes lips look plump and healthy, try not to go over the top! Just a dab in the centre of the lips will give a fantastic effect.

Finish with a light dusting of ‘Corn Silk translucent loose powder’ in ‘Satin’. This is the finest powder I’ve come across and doesn’t cake over skin. I prefer to use a small setting brush rather than a big powder brush as I can be more precise with the application.

…Finally if you do cry … dab! With a soft tissue, do not wipe!
